Ya know that beautifully painted building downtown? That’s Mainframe Studios! Check out that beautiful building for yourself on its First Friday Open Studio event celebrating Black History Month. The line up is truly a force this month: ArtForce Iowa’s new location, Valentine products by Design Fetish by Deshara, The Cookie Queen and Ladie Lex Scented Candles, City Sounds performance by Heath Alan, mono prints with The Blok, Come Pho Love menu options by The Tangerine Food Co, EmpowHER art sale, and a new public art installation by James Bearden & Jay Vigon! Teehee’s Improv Showcase + Standup Comedy with Mike O’Keefe

Part improv showcase. Part stand up feature. All comedy. Everything you’ve ever wanted from a comedy club all in one show. Mike O’Keefe is a young, yet veteran comic who prides himself on his original brand of self-deprecating jackasserey and a tireless work ethic. O’Keefe has made a name himself in the national comedy scene with multiple appearances on Sirius XM Radio, Festival appearances at 100k Laughs and Gilda’s Laugh Fest, his hit podcast Education Schmeducation, where he and his guests discuss their experiences as students and his continually sold out show Best Night Ever, which takes place every Tuesday at the Lincoln Lodge in Chicago.


Dome After Dark at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden

Experience the Garden in a new light at Dome After Dark! Most Fridays from now through February 25, stroll through the lush conservatory and Gardeners Show House illuminated with unique lighting and luminarias. This family friendly event will include food and drink available for purchase from Trellis Café. Normal admission rates apply!

Murder on the Orient Express at the Des Moines Community Playhouse

Climb aboard the Orient Express! Destination… MURDER. It’s winter 1934, and a luxury train, the Orient Express, is full of passengers. When a snowdrift stops the train, one of the passengers is found dead in his locked compartment. It’s up to one passenger, the famous detective, Hercule Poirot, to solve this bizarre case before the killer strikes again. Join us for the ultimate whodunit… but don’t reveal the culprit to others. Masks are required for everyone regardless of vaccination status for performances of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express.


Hockey: Iowa Wild vs. San Rockford IceHogs

The Iowa Wild is the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild. It’s like the Iowa Cubs of hockey. They’re playing at home in Wells Fargo arena on Friday and Saturday this week.

Egg Day at the Hall with Egg King

Regardless of if you haven’t gotten your hands on an Egg King sandwich or if you go every week, its fun to be at The Hall on Saturday mornings. Find yourself a table, order on the app, grab yourself some drinks and enjoy the large TV screens. Pretty chill and delicious. If you went last weekend and loved the Korean Fire Chicken meal, it’s back this week! Spice level 4 out of 10, or you can request no spice! Just ask.

Ok, maybe you’re a pro skier and snowboarder and this is ridiculous to you. But to us, complete novices in our late twenties? This is actually doable…and kind of fun! Drive north to Seven Oaks for a fun day of skiing, snowboarding, or snow tubing. Snow tubing tickets must be purchased online. Ski/snowboard tickets are first come, first serve. They serve food and some beer in the lodge! Hit up Whatcha Smokin’ for amazing BBQ on the way back to Des Moines. 


The Good Co.’s “Roxy” Pop-Up at Kinship

Each weekend in February, “Roxy”, this little Italian Truck, will feature products from a different local businesses at Kinship Brewing Company. This weekend features @helpshomestead products. HINT: you can rent “Roxy” for your own event too!

Step Afrika! introduces audiences to the importance of stepping in cultural identity, the use of body percussion as a means of communication, and to the continuity of the use of polyrhythms and audience participation from traditional Zulu dance to contemporary stepping.
