We sat down with Dr. Paige, owner of True Roots Chiropractic, to learn more about the benefits of neurologically-based chiropractic care. True Roots sees patients of all ages; from newborns to people in their 90s. Everyone is made to feel welcome and cared for. We first heard about Dr. Paige through rave reviews from new mamas and mamas-to-be. True Roots Chiropractic is located at 301 Ingersoll Ave Suite 200.

Giovanna: Tell us about yourself! Are you a Des Moines native or captive?

Dr. Paige:

I’ve been an Iowa girl my entire life, but grew up on the eastern side of the state in the small town of Anamosa. I never imagined I would be someone who lived in Iowa my entire life, but I met a fellow Iowa boy who reminded me of the value of being close to family. Des Moines was my non-negotiable as I wanted to live in a city, and looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing! We love this city and the simple life it brings along with the flexibility to travel and do all the things we love.

Dr. Paige Roth, True Roots Chiropractic

Giovanna: Tell us more about what you specialize in. What does your business bring to the DSM community?

Dr. Paige:

At True Roots, we specialize in a world-class health care experience. From the moment you walk in our doors you will feel loved, heard, and filled with hope. So often, especially in the healthcare world, it can be a negative and un-enjoyable experience. We wanted to change that for our community. We specifically specialize in neurologically-based chiropractic care, meaning we don’t just assess your body for aches and pains, but instead look at the overall function of the nervous system (the control center of the entire body). We do this in a number of different ways from the advanced adjusting techniques we utilize, to the in-depth technology driven evaluations we perform on every person that walks through our doors. Overall our mission is to bring hope and healing to our entire community in order to make a generational shift to the way Des Moines families pursue their health.

Giovanna: What are the benefits of visiting a chiropractor? Tell us how your practice goes beyond just adjustments.

Dr. Paige:

Where do I begin!? If I am being honest, there truly is no limit on the benefits of what regular chiropractic care can bring. And here is why – when it comes to a chiropractic adjustment, the adjustment’s job is to take stress off the central nervous system. Every medical textbook confirms that the nervous system is the controller and coordinator of all systems within the body. When this system is healthy, we are healthy.

A lot of what we do is helping get people out of aches and pains, but the true benefits of being under chiropractic care come from the “side effects” of having a healthy nervous system. When our bodies are able to better adapt to the stressors life brings us, we are able to function at a higher level of health. Things like sleep, digestion, focus, and mood are just a few things we see everyday improve in the people we serve. But the healing doesn’t stop there.

Giovanna: What does a typical visit look like?

Dr. Paige:

Our goal for any visit is for our patients to have a positive experience that focuses on hope, health, and healing.  Our patients check in at the front desk and then head into the next available adjustment room. Once they are in their adjustment room, they lay down on the adjusting table and relax while they wait for the doctors to come in. The doctors use a technique to locate any misalignments and provide a gentle and specific adjustment. Adjustment visits typically take 15 minutes from when our patients walk in the door to when they leave. We love being able to serve so many people and help them reach their health goals and seek long term healing within their bodies!

Giovanna: Do you serve all ages? Tell us more about your patients.

Dr. Paige:

We serve ALL ages and we absolutely love seeing EVERYONE! We adjust babies that are just a few days old to folks in their 90s! It is so important to get kiddos adjusted as soon as possible, especially after birth due to the twisting and turning that can happen during birth. It can add a lot of stress to their nervous systems that can cause issues like colic, constipation, trouble feeding, immune issues, and more! Consistent chiropractic care can do wonders for the body which means it is never too late to start! At any point in life, we all will deal with stressors that can impair overall functions within our bodies.

We focus on the nervous system in our office. We know the nervous system controls all functions within our body. This means we do see people for aches and pains within their bodies that can cause issues like neck pain, back pain, headaches, migraines, and more, but we also see people for system dysfunctions as well. Patients have seen improved function in their digestion, lymphatic, muscular, endocrine, and reproductive systems.

Giovanna: Where did the inspiration for your name come from?

Dr. Paige:

In the chiropractic world we talk about being the finders of the root cause of health concerns. When brainstorming names for the office I knew I wanted that foundational component to be a part of the name, and after many months of brainstorming it clicked and I landed on True Roots Chiropractic. Disclaimer: Kristin Cavallari came out with a cookbook right around the same time I landed on the name. What can I say, great minds think alike? 😉

Giovanna: If you could go back to opening day and tell yourself one thing, what would it be?

Dr. Paige:

Perfectionism will rob you of not only your sleep, but most importantly your joy. I really struggled in the beginning worrying about being the perfect business owner, chiropractor, and boss, and it nearly ruined me from the start. I was so caught up in worrying about being perfect, I was robbed of the enjoyment that comes along with opening a business. This is something I have worked on over the years and gotten much better at, but I wish I would have known this from the start. I would have gotten a lot more sleep in those early years!

Giovanna: What does being a small business mean to you?

Dr. Paige:

The meaning behind being a small business to me is having this incredible opportunity to serve your community in a way that is unique to your specific values. For True Roots, we treat everyone like family. Every time we have a patient in front of us, we envision that they are one of our very own, and do everything we can to make sure we are creating an extraordinary experience and service. Every small business has their unique services and ways of going about doing business, and we feel so blessed to be able to share ours with the city of Des Moines!
